Next Sunday, October 27, in the Argentine Republic, candidates will be voted for the following public offices: President and Vice President ; National Senators ( Chaco , Entre Ríos , Neuquén , Salta , Río Negro , Santiago del Estero , Tierra del Fuego and Autonomous City of Buenos Aires ) and National Deputies .

I regret that none of the candidates for president had taken the opportunity (at least until this October 24) to express their support for the « Anti-Corruption Social Agreement », proposed by different civil society organizations, academics and specialists. It deals with the possible and necessary legislative reforms, on different issues related to corruption; a serious problem that has afflicted us for a long time.

The agreement covers different proposals, divided into six sections, each of which has different thematic axes. Among other issues, through them, it is promoted to ensure compliance with the constitutional requirement of suitability, for access to public offices; the independence from any interference of political or economic power, in the processes of selection of magistrates, the disciplinary processes and the control of their performance; up to the promotion, through public policies, of general welfare over other privileges.

Once the electoral act has passed, the candidates, elected or not, will still be able to publicly express themselves about these proposals and keep them in mind, for the purpose of implementing them in the measures and mechanisms that make it possible to reduce acts of corruption, ensuring the general welfare or common good of Argentines, over personal or particular privileges.
