Tribute to Manuel Belgrano
Manuel Belgrano not only forged symbols of freedom but planted ideas that still unite us as a people. His life shows how commitment to education and social justice transforms nations, inviting us today to reflect on our role in that shared legacy.
Manuel Belgrano
Born on June 3, 1770, in Buenos Aires, at what is now 430 Belgrano Avenue.
Intellectual, economist, journalist, politician, lawyer, and Argentine military leader, his European education brought Enlightenment ideas that shaped our identity.
Defended Buenos Aires during the British Invasions (1806-1807).
Led the May Revolution.
Commanded campaigns in the Argentine War of Independence and the Liberating Expeditions to the Banda Oriental.
In 1812, he created the Argentine Flag in Rosario, an eternal symbol of unity.
His greatest passion was public education, believing only an enlightened society builds equity and progress.
Some of his inspiring quotes:
Without enlightening a country's inhabitants—or what amounts to the same, without education—we can achieve nothing.
The homeland needs educated citizens.
May it no longer be heard that the rich devour the poor, and that justice is only for them.
Belgrano reminds us that great changes arise from everyday actions: educating, uniting, and dreaming together. His flag waves not only in the sky but in every effort for a fairer Argentina, where we all feel part of something greater.
Mention: 2026 commemorative update honoring Belgrano's educational legacy, emphasizing his unifying role for new generations.
project is useful and interesting to you.
